Christ the Lord by Anne Rice

I have been a long time fan of Anne Rice's vampire series. I find her characters and writing to be beautiful and at the same time heart wrenchingly tragic. In her new book, Christ the Lord, she tells the story of Jesus as a young child travelling with his family out of Egypt. It was absolutely wonderful. I found that this book brought the figure of Jesus to me in a real way as no other story has before with the exception of Mel Gibson's Passion.
If you are a fan of Anne Rice's work this book will not disappoint. Her extensive research, that she brings to all of her work is as evident in this novel as it ever was in any in the past. I for one appreciate that aspect of her work. To bring me an ancient world, so that I can really imagine how people lived their everyday lives is truly a gift.
Well, I am really babbling here. Read this book, it is in a word, beautiful.

Parents right to know

I have been listening to the news today about the right of a parent to know when their child is about to have an abortion. As a mother of a fourteen year old, it scares the life out of me to think that she could at some point make this decision without me. I hope that I have raised her to trust in me and depend on me for guidance. I believe I have and so I hope that the law will make no difference to us. But what about all those girls that will not have the wisdom of their parents because they are in such a crisis mode that they really are not making rational decisions. Face it, kids just do not have the ability to make choices like this. I know that there are those that will disagree with that, but there is a reason why you are not considered an adult until age eighteen. And actually I don't believe you are capable of choices like that alone until you are much older, if ever. Every situation is different and every family functions or not in different ways, but taking this out of the hands of parents and placing it in the hands of someone who is not legally allowed to vote, buy alcohol, join the military etc. is outrageous.

Politically Correct

I know we have all heard this before, but I feel it must be said again. Recently a Florida state senator had a problem with the word 'alien' in illegal alien. Not so much with the word illegal, just the word alien. Most laugh at the ridiculousness of this argument, but really isn't this just a huge waste of our time and energy? Does anyone really think the word alien is used to mean a visitor from outer space? That's actually the point she brought up. I see news story after news story that require our complete attention and this is what we are thinking about? May I suggest that instead of worrying over the words that are used to describe these criminals we actually do something about the illegal part of the problem. You see, I believe the real issue is our security. We need to know who is crossing our borders on both sides. I believe immigration is important to this country and I certainly understand wanting to come here, but we must, for our own safety, know who is coming here and what their intentions may be. As much as we don't want to think about it, there are many in the world who are calling for our demise. It's time to Wake Up America!! Pay attention to what is being said around the world about our death, let everyone you know what is going on, and stop the hemorrhaging at our borders.
